Paris, France - June 19, 2023
A left-wing alliance has emerged victorious in the French parliamentary elections after strategic voting in Sunday's second round. The alliance, led by the left-wing NUPES coalition, has secured the most seats in the Assemblée Nationale.
Preliminary results from the Interior Ministry indicate that the left-wing alliance and its allies have won approximately 33% of the vote, far ahead of President Emmanuel Macron's centrist coalition, which won around 25%. The far-right National Rally, led by Marine Le Pen, is projected to win a significant number of seats, becoming the third-largest party in the National Assembly.
President Macron has promised to respect the election results, according to a statement from the Élysée Palace on Sunday. The composition of the new parliament will likely lead to a period of political negotiation and compromise as the government seeks to implement its agenda.
