Walter Samuel Edy Tavares da Veiga was born on March 22, 1992, on the island of Maio, Cape Verde. Known for his towering height and impressive wingspan, Tavares began his professional basketball career with CB Gran Canaria in 2015.

In 2018, Tavares joined Real Madrid, cementing his status as one of the most dominant big men in European basketball.
