Ex-Lambeth Council Boss Banned From Driving After Drink Driving Crash

Former council leader Geoffrey Brighty banned from driving

A former Lambeth Council leader has been banned from driving after crashing his car into a parked vehicle while over the drink-drive limit.

Geoffrey Brighty, 69, was driving a Toyota Yaris when he collided with a parked Volkswagen Golf in Tulse Hill, south London, on 6 June.

Police were called to the scene and Brighty was found to be over the legal alcohol limit.

He was arrested and taken to a police station where he provided a breath sample that was found to contain 50 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath.

The legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath.

Brighty pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

He was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £1,200.

Brighty was leader of Lambeth Council from 2010 to 2014.

He was also a member of the London Assembly from 2000 to 2008.

Brighty is the latest in a series of high-profile figures to be convicted of drink driving.

In 2015, former Lib Dem leader Tim Farron was banned from driving for six months after being caught drink driving.

And in 2016, former Labour MP Nigel Evans was jailed for two years after being convicted of rape and sexual assault.

The convictions of these high-profile figures show that no one is above the law when it comes to drink driving.

If you are caught drink driving, you will face a driving ban, a fine, and a criminal record.

So don’t drink and drive.
