Marcus Kinhult Wins 2019 Betfred British Masters
Marcus Kinhult claimed his first European Tour victory at the Betfred British Masters.
The Swede carded a final round of 69 to finish one shot ahead of Eddie Pepperell at Close House.
Kinhult began the day three shots off the lead but made a fast start with birdies at the first two holes. He dropped a shot at the fourth but bounced back with another birdie at the fifth.
The 22-year-old then made a crucial birdie at the 16th to move one stroke clear of Pepperell. He safely parred the last two holes to seal the victory.
"It's an amazing feeling," said Kinhult. "I've been working so hard for this and it's finally paid off. I'm so happy."
Pepperell was left to rue a missed birdie putt on the 18th green which would have forced a playoff.
"I'm disappointed not to win but Marcus played great today," said Pepperell. "He deserved the victory."
Kinhult's victory is a major boost for his career. He has now won on three different tours and is sure to move up the world rankings.
The Betfred British Masters is one of the most prestigious events on the European Tour. It is played at Close House in Northumberland, England.
